  • You have a working internet connection.

Step 3.

Step 4.

Step 5.

When installation completed, click on Finish and open the VistaVPN software.

Step 6.

Step 8.

Step 9.

Select the country from “server location”

Step 10.

Click on “switch On” button.

Step 01:

Download the Openvpn Config File on your computer. You can download the Openvpn file from “Server List” :

Client Area > My Products & Services > Product Details

Step 02:

Download and install the OpenVPN GUI

Go to https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html. Save the installer .exe file for your operating system to your Downloads folder.

Launch the installer .exe file to start the Setup Wizard.

The User Account Control will ask: “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?” Click Yes.

The Setup Wizard is now launched. Click Next to begin!

You will see the License Agreement. Read it if you wish. Click I Agree.

On the Choose Components screen, click Next.

On the Choose Install Location screen, click Install.

A Windows Security dialog box will pop up asking: “Would you like to install this device software?” Click Install.

When you see the Installation Complete screen, click Next.

You will see a message telling you that OpenVPN has been installed on your computer. Uncheck the “Show Readme” box, then click Finish

Step 03:

Set up the OpenVPN GUI with your OpenVPN configuration files

Now we will configure the OpenVPN GUI with the .ovpn configuration files we downloaded earlier.

During the installation process, an OpenVPN GUI shortcut was added to your Desktop. Right-click the OpenVPN GUI shortcut and click Open file location.

You are now in the C:Program FilesOpenVPNbin directory. We want to go up one directory, to C:Program FilesOpenVPN. Click OpenVPN in the navigation bar to enter that directory.

We now want to enter C:Program FilesOpenVPNconfig. Double-click the config folder to enter it.

Remember those .ovpn OpenVPN config files we downloaded in Step 1? Now we want to move them into the C:Program FilesOpenVPNconfig folder. Select the.ovpn files in the Downloads folder and drag and drop them or copy and past into the config folder to move them.

You might see this “Destination Folder Access Denied” pop-up. It will ask you to provide administrator permission to move things into the config folder. Check the box for “Do this for all current items”, then click Continue.

Awesome! Now your .ovpn files are in C:Program FilesOpenVPNconfig directory.

Step 04:

Connect to the VPN server

Right-click on the OpenVPN GUI shortcut on the Desktop and choose Run as admin to launch it.

Launching the OpenVPN GUI will add an OpenVPN GUI icon to the system tray in the bottom-right corner of your screen. Click the system tray arrow, then click and drag the OpenVPN GUI icon out of the menu and into the system tray for easier access.

Right-click the OpenVPN GUI icon in the system tray.

You will see a list of all the servers. Hover over your preferred VPN server, then click Connect.

Clicking Connect launches a Connecting screen.

Enter the VistaVPN OpenVPN username and password you found earlier then click OK.

When the connection has been established, a speech bubble will notify you of your new connected status.

If you are already connected to a server location and want to connect to a different one, you must first disconnect from the current server before connecting to another one.

Set up DNS leak protection

In order to prevent your internet service provider from seeing information such as what sites you visit, you can edit your configuration files to protect against DNS leaks.

Double-click on each OpenVPN configuration file you wish to use. If prompted, choose to open the file in a text editor e.g. Notepad.

Do not modify the text you see. At the end of the text, add a new row.

Paste block-outside-dns in the newly created row.

Save the file and then close the text editor.

Windows Vista, 7, 8 (Manual Setup for PPTP/L2TP)

Step 01.

Click the ‘Start’ or ‘Windows’ button in the lower-left hand corner of your screen, then navigate your mouse to the ‘Control Panel’ item and click.

Step 02.

Locate the ‘Network and Internet’ category, mouse over the heading, and click.

Step 03.

Point the mouse cursor on the ‘Network and Sharing Center’ item, and click.

Step 04.

Under the heading labeled ‘Change your networking settings’, click on the item labeled ‘Set up a new connection or network’.

Step 05.

With your mouse, select the third item in the list, labeled ‘Connect to a workplace’ – click the ‘Next’ button on the lower-right corner of the panel, to the left of the ‘Cancel’ button.

Step 06.

This menu may appear if you have previously configured any other custom connections in the ‘Network and Sharing Center’. If you do not see this panel, please move on to the next step. Otherwise, select the radio button labeled ‘No, create a new connection’, and continue forward with the ‘Next’ button on the bottom as before.

Step 07.

Mouse over the first item on this panel, labeled ‘Use my Internet connection (VPN)’, and click.

Step 08.

For the ‘Internet address’ field, fill in the VistaVPN hostname which you’ve received from our available hosts.

For the ‘Server address’ field, fill in the server IP from Servers List.

The address in the example is not valid, and must be replaced. For the ‘Destination name’ field, you may enter whatever you wish – this is a descriptor of the connection. Of the three un-ticked options below, only the last needs to be activated – check the box labeled ‘Don’t connect now, just set it up, so I can connect later’. Move to the next step after clicking the ‘Next’ button.

Step 09.

Confirm your username and password from the confirmation email sent to you at sign-up, and enter both in the corresponding fields on this form – please keep in mind that our authentication system is case-sensitive, and even a single miscapitalized letter will prevent you from logging in. If you’d like to save your password, check the second checkbox below, labeled ‘Remember this password’. Do not fill the ‘Domain’ field. Click the ‘Create’ button in the lower-right corner to continue.

Step 10.

More configuration is necessary, so connecting now would potentially error out – you will need to mouse over to the ‘Close’ button on the lower-right corner of the panel and click to continue.

Step 11.

Back in the ‘Network and Sharing Center’, look for the link second from the top of the sidebar on the left side of the panel – the link is labeled, ‘Change adapter settings’. Click this link to continue.

Step 12.

Depending on your folder view settings, the order of your icons may be different from in the screenshot. Also, if the name of your connection differs from our example, keeps that in mind. Look for the connection you made earlier, right click on the icon, mouse down to the ‘Properties’ item, and click your mouse to continue.

Step 13.

Confirm the host name from our mail, and continue on to the ‘Security’ tab, clicking on corresponding tab indicator at the top of the panel.

Step 14.

Click the drop-down box labeled ‘Type of VPN’, and mouse or arrow-key down to the ‘Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPsec (L2TP)’ selection.

Also, you can select ‘Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)’ selection. No additional configuration should be required on this page, however under the ‘Allow these protocols’ radio button, confirm that only the ‘CHAP’, and ‘MS-CHAP v2’ items are checked off. Please examine the screenshot as a reference.

Step 15.

Next, click on the ‘Advanced settings’ button, which is directly below the drop-down described in the previous step.

Step 16 (Just for L2TP Type).

In the ‘Advanced settings’ popup panel, confirm that the radio button labeled ‘Use preshared key for authentication’ is selected, and place your cursor in the corresponding ‘Key’ field. Enter ‘321inter’ (without the quotes) as the preshared key, and then click the ‘OK’ button below.

Step 17.

Continue forward to the ‘Networking’ tab by clicking the tab of the same name near the top of the panel. In the center frame on this panel, uncheck the ‘TCP/IPv6’ and ‘File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks’ items, as shown in the example. You may confirm your changes by hitting the ‘OK’ button on the lower-right side of the panel.

Step 18.

To test your settings and login credentials, point your cursor to the ‘Notification Area’, usually located near the lower-right hand corner of your screen. In this area, look for icon of a computer with a cord and plug along the side (see the example), and click it. Find the connection made earlier, the example using the name VistaVPN, and click the ‘Connect’ button directly to the right.

Step 19.

Confirm your username for accuracy, then click the ‘Connect’ button in the bottom-left corner of this panel. After 30 seconds or so, confirm the connectivity status by opening the ‘Notification Area’ popup in your taskbar – you will be notified of any problems with the connection, in which case you will want to contact our support team. Once you have verified connectivity to the VPN, you can now have peace of mind that your activities are secured from prying eyes.
